Connect to Illumichat

mIRC is a well featured IRC client which is now in its 10th year of development.
Here we'll show you how to set up mIRC to get the most out of it.

Setting up

Once you have downloaded mIRC from http://www.mirc.com and installed it onto your computer, you can run it and along with the main window you will see this popup window.

This is nothing to worry about. The evaluation is for 30 days, however after that time you only need wait a few seconds for the 'Continue' button to become clickable again. At that point, you simply click the button and you will be presented with this next screen.

This is the first page of mIRC Options. Here you can enter your full name, email address, your chosen nickname and an alternate nickname just in case your first choice is already in use.

Once you have entered that information, you will want to select 'Servers' under the left side menu tree. Here we will add Illumichat to the list of servers within mIRC to make it easy to reconnect to us in the future.

The first step is to click on the 'Add' button. This will being up the Add Server dialog box where you can enter the server details. Enter the information from the screenshot below and then click the 'Add' button to add Illumichat information to mIRC.

After the Add Server window closes you will be brought back to the mIRC Options window, which is still on Server. Now that Illumichat is listed under the IRC Network field, you can click on the 'Connect To Server' button to join the network.

Once you have successfully connected to Illumichat, the next window that will appear is the Favorites window. This comes with a built in list of channels placed there by the makers of mIRC. They are not specific to any one network. You can use this window to add favorite channels that you frequent. For now you can click the 'OK' button to close this.

After closing the Favorites window you will be presented with the main mIRC program. Every time you connect, you get a lot of information displayed in the Status window, including a server Message Of The Day. The Message Of The Day has useful information for all users and changes now and then so it is important to scan it for any new information.

The Status window displays other information related to your connection to an IRC network. Most of the time a user will not need to worry about Status. It is useful for entering commands to join a channel, register a nick or scan the help files of NickServ, ChanServ and the other network services.

For first time visitors to Illumichat, we like to recommend that you join the #help channel which is always populated by the men and women who operate the network, affectionately known as "Opers". The screen shot below displays the simple command used to join channels.

After you press Enter, mIRC will open a new window to display the channel. Here you will be able to talk to the people currently in the channel and get any assistance you may need at any time. Do no hesitate to ask them as many questions as you like, they are there to help make your experience with Illumichat a possitive one.

The list on the right hand side displays all the people currently in the #help channel. Those with the @ next to their name are refered to as Ops and anyone with a + with their name is refered to as a Voice. Any one of them are capable of assisting you.

We hope this guide has helped you join Illumichat and we look forward to speaking with you.
